About the Editor/Author.

Raised in a small town in Pennsylvania, Mark Crane found his way to Greenwich Village for college in 1980 and soon became a true New Yorker, serving such diverse vocations as Court Clerk and Subway Motorman. With a master's degree in English Education, he homeschooled his children while building a successful online bookselling business.

This venture expanded into craft publishing, featuring iconic facsimile first editions and his own titles. In 2023, driven by a deep fascination with New York City’s history—particularly its Bohemian legacy—Mark embarked on the meticulous task of transcribing the 3.3-million-word archive of the New York Saturday Press, a legendary literary journal from antebellum NYC with limited access in scholarly collections.

Now residing in the Bronx with his family, he is thrilled to see this extensive project come to fruition, inviting readers to explore the rich narrative of New York's forgotten literary past.
